Chaos at Howe Community Park Wounds Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Officials in Sacramento County are probing a shooting incident that erupted on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the moment officers were shutting down a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to Howe Park at about half past six in the evening after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Not long after, a second call came in describing a possible fight unfolding inside the park.

A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that hundreds of people had come together at the location without official sanction.

The Shooting Itself

Law Cottage Way shooting Sacramento enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling the assembled crowd to go home. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the crowd to leave.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement immediately began identifying shooting victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Ultimately, four shooting victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. According to authorities, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and helped triage the injured at the park.

The Investigation

The main crime scene was believed to have occurred along Cottage Way near the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators recovered additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were noted in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that a second shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives continued working throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Information relayed through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in Solano County California. Four detainees were held for questioning. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for further questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
